Spending Time with God

This morning while getting myself ready for work and the kids ready for school my house was chaos; sadly, this seems to be a bit of a habit we are making. One child can’t find the right shirt while another can’t find a shoe for her uniform.  I’m struggling with what to wear and yet another child seems to be moving slow as molasses.  Soon we’re rushing out the door and I’m saying to myself…”I have seriously got to do better”.

Riding into work it made me think of my prayer life and personal relationship with Christ.  How there are times where I wait for “trouble” to arise before I decide to pray and ask God for help.  Now, I’m not talking about everything because I realize situations pop up and hard times can sometimes come out of nowhere. I’m talking about putting an honest effort into reading, praying, studying…just plain communicating with Him on a daily basis so that I can feel His presence and be more equipped to handle my days.

Just like if I would take the time to prepare myself and the kids the night before our mornings wouldn’t be so rushed and hectic; if I take time to spend with God…when those issues and troubles come my prayer life and relationship will be closer to Him.  If I’m closer to God then I will be better equipped to handle what life throws my way.

I realize that we may be thinking I barely have time for what I have now let alone carving out time to sit with Him…and trust me I totally understand.  However, if it’s one thing I have realized is that when I give God my first then it is Him who restores my peace, orders my steps and gives me the strength to make it through those tough times.

He is always there for us and if we are too busy for Him…then simply put, we are doing way more than He really wants from us in the first place.
